Bully Buddys' mission is to provide the most complete, honest and accurate information about bully breed type dogs to the public and always promote responsible pet ownership. It is also our mission to offer education and provide resources for pet owners.
What exactly is a pit bull, anyway?
Contrary to popular belief, "pit bull" is NOT a breed of dog. "Pit Bull" is
a common slang term for 3 breeds of dog; Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Pit
Bull Terrier and American Staffordshire Terrier. Considering there are over
20 different breeds that are mistaken for "pit bulls", you can understand how easy
it is to mis-identify them.
These breeds were used for pit fighting and/or bull baiting clear back in 16th century England. Even though dog fighting was made illegal in the 1830's in Britain, it was brought to America and is still thriving in cities all across the United States.
Responsible owners have come to know these breeds to be loyal, comical, intelligent, affectionate, loving and very athletic despite their negative publicity.
